behavior management
We will be following PAWS for Success guidelines this year:
1. Be Responsible
2. Show Respect
3. Do Your Best
4. Protect Learning Time
5. Be Trustworthy
Our more specific classroom goals state: listen when someone of talking, follow directions quickly, keep your hands/feet to yourself, raise your hand to speak, be safe/kind/honest, and respect yourself/others/school.
I do my best to model these traits and praise and reward all students for positive behaviors. Disruptive behavior is discussed and corrected respectfully, and reteaching occurs. To help keep track of behavior, I am using an online program called Class Dojo. You received log-in instructions at conferences. You will be able to see positive and negative behaviors your child is exhibiting. If there are major issues, or I find that I need to explain something more, I will send you a message.
Students can earn and lose points based on behavior choices. At the end of the day, points earned are transferred to a punch card. After every 10 punches earned, the child can earn a reward (treasure box, lunch with the teacher, use of a special seat, extra sharing day, etc)
If this system does not work for your child, or if misbehavior becomes chronic and consistent, we can discuss other options to be beneficial for your child’s progress
Please keep in mind that I don’t expect your child to be perfect and this system is simply designed to manage behavior and help students become responsible and respectful students in kindergarten. It is a good visual for the child as well as me to adjust behavior accordingly.
